Dr. Hao Tan is a Senior Lecturer for Newcastle Business School, at the University of Newcastle Australia. His current research is predominantly focused on the energy and resource transitions of China and their global implications. Since 2009, he has published, solely or jointly, two research books, four book chapters, and over 20 scholarly journal articles, including 13 articles in A/A* journals as per Australia’s ERA or ABDC rankings. Those include leading journals in international business, strategy or innovation economics such as JWB, IC&C, JBR, IJPE, TF&SC; as well as leading journals in the field of energy/ environment policy and economics such as EP, JCP and JIE. With his co-author Prof John Mathews from Macquarie University Sydney, he has published three times in ‘Nature’ during the past two years, including two commentary articles on the development of renewable energy and circular economy respectively, and a correspondence.
He writes regularly for the UK Financial Times’ China website which has over 2 million registered readers, and also writes for other English and Chinese-language media outlets including the websites of caixin, The Guardian, theconversation.com, chinadialogue.net etc. His research articles and opinion pieces have been widely reported, cited or reposted, in international media and government websites. He has been interviewed and quoted by BBC, Voice of America, the French newspaper Le Monde, China Radio International, and some of the radio stations in Australia. He held visiting positions in the National Tsinghua University in Taiwan, the Institute of Development Studies in the UK, and Tsinghua University in Beijing. Dr. Hao Tan currently serves in the editorial board of Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and has acted as a reviewer for over 20 international journals.
