February 20th 2015

The China Energy Group hosted its 7th annual Chinese New Year Party on February 20th. Close to 100 people from across the Lab’s many departments came to celebrate the Year of the Ram. The event also gave the China Energy Group an opportunity to thank everyone for the work they do that supports our efforts. Our guests came from the Director’s office, Environmental Technologies Area office, Affiliates office, Budget, Communications, Human Resources, IRSO, Sponsored Projects, Public Affairs, Tech Transfer and the Travel Office. Thank you! We couldn’t do it without you!

The China Energy Group has worked collaboratively with China for 27 year and last year’s Year of the Horse was another busy and successful year for the Group. We participated in the 5th U.S. – China Energy Efficiency Forum in Beijing, we accompanied U.S. DOE Assistant Secretary David Danielson and his delegation to meetings and site visits to our projects in China, our group members participated in the 2nd Shenzhen International Low Carbon Forum and the U.S. – China Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) Steering Committee meeting in Beijing with U.S. DOE Secretary Moniz.

We also had the honor of being awarded an U.S-China EcoPartnership by Secretary Kerry in Beijing and as part of the historic U.S.-China Joint Announcement on Climate Change by President Obama and President Xi Jinping, both presidents announced a five-year extension of the U.S.-China CERC Buildings Consortium, led by the China Energy Group since 2010.

Our Group researchers published 12 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 peer-reviewed conference papers, and four LBNL reports in 2014. In addition, we produced Version 8 of our China Energy Databook and published Key China Energy Statistics booklet for 2014. We hosted 238 guests for short visits and 45 visiting researchers who stayed between six to twelve months. We also trained over 80 experts from the Chinese government, private sector, and research institutions on how to use the suite of CEG-developed low carbon eco-city tools. To get this all done we took a total of 96 domestic and international trips.

In 2014 the China Energy Group’s founder, Dr. Mark Levine, was recognized by the Lawrence Berkeley National with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Societal Impact for his work in China. Congratulations Mark!

We wish to convey our utmost appreciation for your continuous support to us in the past year and would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and wonderful Chinese New Year!
