Hongyou Lu is a Scientific Engineering Associate in the International Energy Analysis Department of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Hongyou conducts research and analysis in industrial sector through thermal energy modeling, technology assessment, and data analysis. 

Her current work focused on industrial sector decarbonization technology assessment and the development of China Energy Outlook. Previously she conducted studies to analyze the technical and economic potential of industrial waste heat in cement, steel, and glass sectors. She played a key role in the U.S. Department of Energy sponsored International Industrial Energy Efficiency Training and Deployment (IIEETD) program, which conducted energy assessments in various Chinese industrial facilities, such as steel, cement, petrochemical, and pulp and paper facilities. Hongyou also supported the US-China Asia Pacific Partnership’s Cement project, by providing benchmarking analysis and training to 42 Chinese cement plants, as well as investigating the policy and regulatory framework of using sewage sludge as alternative fuels in cement industry. 

Hongyou has a Master of Science in Energy and Resources and a Master of Public Policy from University of California at Berkeley, and a Master of Arts in East Asian Studies from Stanford University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in History and International Relations from Peking University. Hongyou is a U.S. Department of Energy Qualified Specialist of the Process Heating Assessment and Survey Tool.
