Dr. Nan Zhou appointed Visiting Professor to the National Center for International Research of Low-carbon and Green Buildings in China

On Sept.13, 2017, Dr. Nan Zhou, Staff Scientist, Department Head of the International Energy Analysis Department, and the Group Leader of the China Energy Group of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), visited Chongqing University at the invitation of Prof. Li Baizhan. Dr. Zhou was also hired as a visiting professor at Chongqing University National Low Carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center and Green building and Living Environment Joint Laboratory of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education.

Dr. Zhou's visiting professor's appointment ceremony and scientific research cooperation exchange was held at School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering, Chongqing University. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Li Baizhan, Director Zhu Caizhao and Deputy Director Wang Kaicheng from Science and Technology Department, Deputy Director Ye Lei from International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Professor Liu Hong, Deputy Director of National Low Carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center, and major research experts attended the meeting.

Prof. Li warmly welcomed Dr. Zhou and briefly introduced the Chongqing University National Low-carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center, and expressed interest to further in-depth cooperation and communication with LBNL.

Director Zhu Caizhao from Science and Technology Department, and Professor Liu Hong, Deputy Director of National Low Carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center, issued a letter of appointment for Dr. Zhou as a guest professor of Chongqing University National Low-carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center and Green building and Living Environment Joint Laboratory of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education.

After the ceremony, leaders and experts conducted comprehensive communication and discussions on research cooperation, talents exchange and joint training, as well as scientific research personnel exchange and cooperation and other topics, in order to attract more world-class experts and scholars to the research team of Chongqing University international cooperation base, enhance the innovation ability of the research base, as well as further strengthen the academic exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing University and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy and is one of the most outstanding national laboratories. Chongqing University and LBNL have conducted collaborative scientific and technical research since 2010. Dr. Zhou serves as the chief scientist and project leader of the U.S.-China Clean Energy Center-Building Energy Efficiency (CERC-BEE). Chongqing University is the main technical support member for the China side of the project, in which that Prof. Li led the topic "building envelope system key technology research" (No. 2010DFA72740-03). U.S.-China cooperation projects have made outstanding research results, resulting in a series of intellectual property, technology products, as well as standards and policies.

Low Carbon Green Building International Joint Research Center, led by Chongqing University, jointly established by LBNL, Cambridge University, and a total of 9 first-class universities and research institutions, was identified by Ministry of Science and Technology as a national international joint research center in 2012. For a long time, Chongqing University and LBNL have actively carried out scientific and technical cooperation research and exchange in terms of sustainable environmental technologies, heat island effects, energy consumption analysis, and environmental impact.
