Yan Ding, selected by the China Scholarship Council, joined the China Energy Group (CEG) of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a visiting scholar in July 2014. During his one-year visit, he continued to work with Wei Feng and Chris Marnay of the CEG in building energy simulation and optimization for the pilot buildings selected by the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center Building Energy Efficiency Consortium as he has been in the past three years.
Dr. Ding received his Ph.D. in heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) engineering from Tianjin University. His research focuses on the efficiency of building energy system, retrofit schemes of existing buildings, human behavior patterns in public buildings, and internal load prediction of new buildings. Dr. Ding has published more than 15 articles in international journals such as Energy and Buildings, Energy Conversion and Management, and Energy Policy. He is also a reviewer for several international journals such as Energy, Energy and Buildings, and Energy Conversion and Management.
Prior to LBNL, Dr. Ding also visited CHUN-ANG University in Seoul, South Korea and Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia for study and research. He used to intern at China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development.
